Hometown Heroes: Townsville Fire Soar to Win Inaugural WNBL Townsville Tip Off ’25

Townsville’s own Fire lit up the court this weekend, claiming the crown in the inaugural WNBL Townsville Tip Off ’25 with a dominant 81–54 victory over Geelong in the final.  

From opening blow to the last buzzer, the Fire displayed depth, grit, and cohesion, with every roster member putting points on the board.

Standout performances came from Chantel Horvat (15 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals) and earlier contributions from Miela Sowah and Courtney Woods, all part of a star-studded lineup guided by five-time Coach of the Year Shannon Seebohm.

Importantly, the success of the Tip Off gives fans a thrilling preview of what’s to come. With all eight WNBL teams competing across three action-packed days, the stage is set for the 2025–26 regular season to launch in spectacular fashion.
